When I decided to visit Paris, I knew that I wanted to photograph the Eiffel Tower differently than most people would. My goal was to capture an image that grabbed your attention, and reduced distractions by not having people in the photo. The only way I was able to do this was to stay up all night waiting for the sun to rise. So I camped out under the Eiffel Tower one night until 6:45 in the morning waiting… I have to admit, I was a bit on edge walking around in the city by myself in the middle of the night with all of my gear, but I came home with everything. Earlier in the evening I shot Notre Dame and I just walked about an hour and a half, following the river to the foot of the Eiffel Tower. People think that New York is the city that doesn’t sleep… Just wait until you visit Paris! I saw some pretty awesome things!
After I got this shot, I decided to ship back my tripod, along with some other gear. I think that it is more important for me to travel light, than it is to hold on to things that I “might” use once or twice. I’ve found it more burdensome than anything to lug around the extra weight.
