I just got back from a three week trip in South America with my good friend Bradford. We spent the first 2 weeks traveling in Peru, and the last week in Bolivia. The highlight of Peru for me was  hiking the Salkantay Trek to Maccu Picchu. In total, the trek lasted 5 days and 4 nights and the views were unbelievable. We trekked through every type of climate you could imagine, from hail and snow to the hot and humid rain forest. In the end, it was an incredibly rewarding experience. Machu Picchu was epic. If you’re thinking about going yourself, the tour company we used was Alpaca Expeditions, and I would definitely recommend them. When we got back to Cusco, we celebrated by eating “Cuy”, otherwise known as guinea pig, for dinner.

From there we took an overnight bus from Cusco to Isla Del Sol, where we spent the night on our way to La Paz. The island is quite remote, located on the border between Peru and Bolivia on Lake Titicaca. It was incredibly tranquil, and makes for a great spot to get away and unplug from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

We spent the last 5 days exploring La Paz, which is the capital of Bolivia. My favorite part was mountain biking down death road, which has been named one of the deadliest roads in the world. I made it home with only a few cuts and bruises. After three weeks of travel, I made some great new friends, crossed a couple things off my bucket list, and added a few more things to the list.

The next big trip I’m starting to plan for is New Zealand at the beginning of the year!

All images above were shot with my Olympus OM-D EM-1, which was the only camera that I brought, trying to travel light. My two choice lenses were the Olympus 17mm & Olympus 45mm.
